MAPUTO, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- A late goal gifted visiting Namibia the 2-1 win over host Mozambique in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Zimpeto stadium in Maputo on Saturday afternoon.
The loss smashed the Mozambicans' hope to continue leading the group in the qualifications for the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
"I would like to say sorry to the 28 million Mozambicans, as they were expecting a different result and we couldn't deliver," Mozambique captain Domingues said after the match.
"We will be able to readjust and react through this adversity, obviously all the possibilities continue equal. We will work on the players emotion because they lost at home in front of millions of Mozambicans that were expecting joy, but we will work together and will go to Namibia with the aim of recovering and conquering the three points," said Mozambique coach Abel Xavier.
Namibia coach Ricardo Minneti said he was impressed with the performance of his players and he expects it next week when his squad plays against Mozambique again in the capital of Namibia.
This was the second time Mozambique was punished at the final minute of the match. Last time it was against Guinea Bissau.
