Sports Beats of 24 Solar Terms: Beginning of Spring

The 24 solar terms, consisting of 12 major solar terms and 12 minor solar terms, were created thousands of years ago by the ancient Chinese to guide agricultural production.

Today, the culture behind the terms provides useful guidance to people's lives as each term features special food, cultural ceremonies and healthy living tips.

Beginning of Spring, or "Lichun" in Chinese, a solar term to mark the formal start of spring, falls on Feb. 4 this year. It is the first of the 24 solar terms in the Chinese ancient calendar. As the weather warms up, spring awakens the earth, the rain falls, the thunder surges, and everything wakes up from winter.
