UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- The UN General Assembly (UNGA) adopted a draft resolution on Wednesday urging the United States to end its economic, commercial and financial embargo against Cuba.
The draft resolution was passed by a vote of 165 in favor, seven against and 12 abstentions. Argentina, Hungary, Israel, North Macedonia, Paraguay, Ukraine and the United States voted against it.
The draft reiterated the UNGA's call upon all UN states to refrain from promulgating and applying laws and measures of the kind referred to in the preamble to the text, in conformity with their obligations under the UN Charter and international law, which, inter alia, reaffirm the freedom of trade and navigation.
It also urged member states "that have and continue to apply such laws and measures to take the necessary steps to repeal or invalidate them as soon as possible in accordance with their legal regime."
Since 1992, the UNGA has adopted by an overwhelming majority the non-binding annual resolution, urging the United States to end its embargo against Cuba imposed since 1962. ■
